Combining Field Excursions In Aviation And Workforce Training

The Aviation Academy provides a yearlong paid internship for students entering grades 10-12 in Museum education, industry connections and workforce development, drone instruction and licensing.

Museum Education

  • Programs developed and conducted in Museum exhibits

Industry Connections and Workforce Development

Drone Instruction and Licensing

  • Part 107 education- 24 hours of education toward drone license
  • Emil Buehler Aviation Institute at Broward College testing site
  • Time to practice flying drones
  • Self-paced online education

Expectations

Interns will…

  • Be paid internship up to 20 hours a month
    • June- September ($12/hour)
    • October to May ($13/hour)
  • Work weekends and school days off/breaks

Important Dates*:

  • May 17, 2023 – Application closes at 11:59 p.m.
  • June 7, 2023 – Acceptance into MODS Aviation Academy. Notices will be distributed.
  • June 17, 2023 – Orientation to Aviation Academy
  • July 8, 2023, 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. – Museum Education: Tinkering Session 1
  • July 15, 2023 – Museum Education: Emil Buehler Aviation Institute flight simulator professor will train Aviation Academy interns on MODS simulators and in the Museum’s Makerspace
  • July 19, 2023 – Industry Connection/ Workforce at the Emil Buehler Aviation Institute at Broward College. Interns will be conducting a demo in their hangar and training on flight/air traffic simulators
  • The complete syllabus will be distributed at the orientation
