The Museum offers a dynamic and enriching environment to work in and to volunteer. Opportunities vary, and the following brief descriptions provide insight into available positions. Vice President of Development
The Museum of Discovery and Science is a much loved and key feature of downtown Fort Lauderdale providing experiential pathways to lifelong learning in science for children and adults through exhibits, programs and films. Within its 119,000 square feet of interior space are the 300-seat AutoNation IMAX Theater, dynamic interactive exhibits in the natural and physical sciences, classrooms, labs, café and museum store. The museum complex also features an open-air grand atrium and a fenced green space on Broward Boulevard slated for development as a Science Park.
Reporting directly to the President/CEO, the Vice President of Development leads and supervises all fundraising and development activities, including capital campaign gifts, corporate sponsorships, grants/government support and significant fundraising events. Responsible for working with the Board of Trustees and CEO in developing key external alliances, cultivating philanthropic support, and providing strategic guidance and implementation of capital and grant requests. Experience in capital campaigns, soliciting major gifts, government relations, grant writing, and special events. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and leadership qualities required. Bachelor’s Degree. Minimum of 10 years concentrated fundraising and management experience in a museum, cultural or non-profit environment with significant capital and operating responsibilities. Salary negotiable dependent upon experience.

RESERVATIONS SALES MANAGER - Full-Time
SUMMARY: Develops and executes sales promotion and marketing plans for the Museum’s revenue based products i.e. group tours, school field trips, lab, demos, birthday parties, advance sales, camps, overnight adventures, IMAX, special events and when necessary membership.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a bachelor’s degree and two years work experience or equivalent combination. Education and work experience need to be from a related field i.e. degree in business administration, marketing, communications and experience in sales and marketing, preferably in a hospitality, attraction or museum setting. Must be a skilled excellent customer service professional and possess good written and verbal communication skills. Must be computer literate and familiar with Social Media. Conflict resolution and trouble shooting skills are a must. Ability to anticipate and respond quickly to rapidly changing conditions. Availability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable for the achievement of budgeted revenue in assigned areas through sales promotion (including but not limited to direct mail, telemarketing, internal and external promotions, speaking engagements) and efficient operations. Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of timely reports pertaining to finances, forecasts and marketing activity. Manage the daily operations of the reservations group including budgets, personnel and training. Assist in the design of internal and external cross-departmental sales promotions and actively implement promotions to achieve expected results.
- Part Time - Seasonal
QUALIFICATIONS: Previous customer service and sales experience. Good communications skills. Ability to be friendly, helpful and kind. Must be able to work under pressure and constantly changing conditions. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Must be available to work holidays, weekends and evenings.
SUMMARY: Greet visitors and provide excellent customer service to Museum visitors at all times. Be knowledgeable and up-to-date on all films, exhibits and events and all fee-based programs. As a cashier process Museum visitor transactions including selling IMAX tickets, advanced tickets, exhibit tickets and gift certificates using the VISTA ticketing system. Follow all Museum cash handling procedures. Proactively sell memberships and combination admission tickets.

IMAX Usher - Part Time - Seasonal
QUALIFICATIONS: Previous customer service experience. Mature attitude. Good communication skills, able to speak before large groups of visitors. Attention to safety techniques, effectively able to control
crowds of people. The ability to work under pressure and constantly changing conditions. Ability to stand for long periods of time and to operate 3D glasses cleaning equipment.
SUMMARY: Deliver the best IMAX experience to visitors. Perform assigned job duties at the highest level of efficiency to ensure that theater is operating at its optimum. Provide excellent customer service
with a friendly, professional attitude. Maintain a working knowledge of the Museum of Discovery and Science and the AutoNation IMAX Theater including current films, programs and exhibits.

PART TIME EDUCATOR - LEVEL 1 - PART TIME
Bachelors degree, previous customer service and teaching experience. Good communications skills and the, ability to speak before large audiences.
Attention to safety techniques, effectively able to control crowds. The ability to work under pressure and constantly changing conditions. Ability to stand for
long periods of time. Must be available to work holidays, weekends and evenings. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide excellent customer service to all museum visitors.
- Teach/conduct school, public and youth programs including camps, camp-ins and birthday parties. Will also be responsible for delivering theater shows.
- Interact with Museum visitors on a daily basis by demonstrating the concepts behind the Museum exhibits.
- Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance and a car to deliver outreach programs to schools and various locations.
- Learn how to handle animals by taking and passing all levels of the animal handling training program (level 1-6).
- Operate the MaxFlight, Airboat Adventure and the Mars Rover on a daily basis.
- Greet school and recreation groups throughout the year.
- Deliver formal and informal Science Café programs on a daily basis.
