Camp Discovery for ages 6-12

Camp Discovery is designed to give children entire days filled with exploration and hands-on learning. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (before and after care is available). Camp fee includes all workshop materials and chaperoned exhibit exploration. Children should bring two snacks, lunch and a drink. The Subway Café is available as a lunch option.  Call 954.713.0930 to register.

One-Day Camps
$55 per child, $50 for MODS Members

Two-Day Camps
$90 per child, $80 for MODS Members

Three-Day Camps
$140 per child, $120 for MODS Members

Four-Day Camps
$200 per child, $175 for MODS Members

Five-Day Camps
$225 per child, $200 for MODS Members

Note: Multiple Day Camps must be purchased for complete camp duration even if child unable to the full session.

Mad Magnetism & Shocking Electricity!
October 3

Unravel the strange properties of magnets and static electricity! Investigate the very first magnets. How did they work? You might be surprised at what is and what is not attracted to magnets. Don’t be shocked if you have a hair-raising good time as we experiment with static electricity!

Stop, Drop, & Roll
October 12

It’s Fire Safety Month! Explore how to handle fire emergencies, discover the importance of controlled burns and learn about a day in the life of a firefighter. You’ll also create fire tornadoes and ignite a rainbow of colored flames.

Spooktacular Science
October 28

You’ll have a ghoulishly good time as we experiment with ectoplasmic slime and you create our own gross bloody scabs. Come dressed in your scariest costume or as your favorite character!*
*Please, no masks or weapons.

Shark Attack!
November 8

Dive into a frenzy as we explore the lives of sharks! We’ll take a closer look at a shark’s anatomy, debunk myths about these predatory sea creatures, and experience feeding time with the sharks that call the Museum home.

You, Me & Gravity
November 11

What goes up must come down, or does it? Try not to be thrown off balance as we test our centers of gravity and attempt to defy gravity using the forces around us.

Here There Be Fantastic Beasts!
November 23

Ever wondered about some of the strange animals that call the Museum home? Which ones glow in the night, and why does one have a sand-papery tail? Join us as we meet and learn about the Museum’s own fantastic beasts!

Potions, Explosions and Creatures Galore!
November 25

Is it magic or science? In our potions lab, we’ll use chemical reactions to create funny smells, temperature changes, and eruptions! Learn the science behind mystical dry ice experiments. Finish off the day by creating your very own wands!

In a galaxy far, far away are there strange planets and even stranger beings that inhabit them? Prepare yourself for a journey through the galaxy as we explore our solar system and life in space! Discover the challenges of space travel and the technology. Blast off into the unknown abyss of space and explore the mysteries of stars, meteorites, and planets.

Star Wars STEM
January 2-6, 2017

Take a closer look at the science and technology behind the big screen as we explore lasers, Death Star engineering, Landspeeder aeronautics, and hologram technology. Learn about the ‘forces’ around us and tricks to defy gravity!
